The College of Agriculture , Department of Food Sciences organized a seminar in cooperation with "Towards The Goal "foundation for training and consulting entitled (Antioxidants and Smoking).
Nariman Azim Shnaa ,the lecturer of food sciences department, explained the importance of and role of antioxidants as an essential part of the immune system against the accumulation of free radicals in the cellular and extracellular compartments as the optimal system for these enzymes is dependent on selenium, zinc and manganese taken from the consumption of fruits and vegetables. Rich in antioxidant carotenoids may alter the effect of smoking on the risk of developing some cancers, such as colon cancer.
