University of Basrah organizes a training course on methods of extracting fats from forage samples

The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a specialized training course on “Methods of Extracting Fat from Feed Samples” The training course, which was held in the Department of Animal Production at the College of Agriculture at Basra University for the period from Sunday to Tuesday 14-16/11/2021, aimed to familiarize graduate students with the importance of extracting fats from forage samples. . The training course, which was attended by the teachers of a. Dr.. Rabia Jadoua Abbas and Prof. Dr.. Alfred Solaka Karume and a. NS. Dr.. Jalal Akili is pleased to introduce the most important extraction methods used, the technique and mechanism of action of these methods and their efficiency, and all the pros and cons that accompany these methods. He added to the definition of the most important organic solvents and their properties used in the extraction process and the most applied in the extraction and estimation of crude fat in the laboratory. The course dealt in detail with the methods of extraction with organic solvents represented by the extraction method of the Soxhlet device and the Goldfisch Fat Extractor, and their practical application, obtaining the fatty extract in the practical part of the course and calculating its percentage. The training course recommended following the most useful methods for rapid measurement of fat content that are appropriate to the sample to be tested, as well as being easy to conduct and having an appropriate cost.
