The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah, Department of Field Crops, organized a panel discussion on the blue economy in achieving sustainable development The seminar, which was attended by Assistant Professor Dr. Khawla Rasheej Hassan, aims to: 1- Explaining the nature of the blue economy 2- Explanation of the role of the blue economy in achieving sustainable development The episode dealt with the episode: 1. A statement of the concept of the blue economy, which is represented in the good management of water resources, which include steam and oceans, and the economic activities associated with them. 2. Reviewing a set of economic indicators that show the importance of oceans in achieving sustainable economic growth. 3. A statement of the most important risks to which it is exposed and which contribute to its unsustainability. 4. A review of the most important measures adopted by relevant international organizations and bodies in investing water resources to achieve sustainable development. The episode touched on 1. Focus on activating and applying the principles of the blue economy, which contribute to the sustainable use and good management of water resources, especially in the southern regions of Iraq. 2. Work to reduce the risks to these resources, which are represented by overfishing, water pollution, loss of biodiversity resulting from the deterioration of natural capital, and so on. 3. Work to raise awareness of the importance of the subject with decision-makers and those interested in this regard.
