Dangers you don't know about processed meats

Department of Food Sciences at the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a scientific workshop on the risks you might not know about processed meat.

The workshop, delivered by Assistant Lecturer Sarah Hashim Musa, identified the most significant risks to consumers who rely primarily on processed meats for their diet. Several official food and drug authorities have indicated that processed meats are linked to many diseases, most notably obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer.

The workshop explained that the danger of processed meats lies in the additives they contain, which may be the primary cause of these diseases.

Among the workshop's most important recommendations that can help reduce the risk of consuming processed meats is to avoid purchasing types that contain nitrates, nitrites, or sodium glutamate. It is also important to eat fresh meats instead of processed meats, to focus on white meats, and to increase your intake of vitamins and antioxidants.
