The University of Basra launches a major national afforestation campaign with the participation of the College of Agriculture, coinciding with National Afforestation Day.

In accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and under the direct patronage of the President of the University of Basra, the university launched today the "National Tree Planting Campaign," with direct field supervision by the College of Agriculture. This initiative coincides with National Tree Planting Day (March 12) and supports the "National Tree Planting Campaign" initiative and global efforts to combat climate change.

The College of Agriculture, through its consulting office and nurseries, selected tree and seedling species suitable for the environmental and climatic conditions of Basra to ensure their sustainability and growth. The campaign encompassed the university's main campus and its campuses in Karma Ali and Bab Al-Zubair, in addition to specialized campaigns conducted by teams from the College of Agriculture to develop green spaces in various colleges across the University of Basra.

The campaign witnessed active participation from college deans, faculty members, and student volunteers, underscoring the importance of promoting a culture of volunteerism and environmental responsibility.

The campaign aimed to mitigate the effects of dust storms, expand the green belt around university facilities, and achieve sustainable development goals by improving air quality and creating a healthy learning environment. Agricultural experts from the College of Agriculture provided consultations to ensure the success of planting, irrigation, and regular pruning.

The Dean of the College of Agriculture emphasized, "This campaign is not just about planting trees; it's an educational and environmental initiative aimed at instilling the values of nature conservation in our students and leveraging the scientific expertise of the College of Agriculture to serve the university community."
