
Professor Aqeel Hadi Abdul Wahid, a lecturer in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra, chaired the master's thesis discussion committee for graduate student Saja Hassan Odeh, from the Department of Food Sciences at the College of Agriculture and Marshlands at the University of Dhi Qar. Odeh's thesis was titled "A Study of Some Morphological and Molecular Indicators and Genetic Relationships of Some Date Palm Varieties Produced from Tissue Culture and Traditional Culture in Dhi Qar Governorate."
The study aimed to compare free and tissue culture offshoots in terms of genetic compatibility and stability, and to determine the genetic fingerprint of varieties, especially imported ones.
The thesis recommended studying the importance of phenotypic traits and their role in differentiating between varieties, as well as the importance of the OPHO3 gene in genetic diagnosis.
