A lecturer at the University of Basra participated as a member of the doctoral discussion committee at Al-Qasim Green University.

Professor Amjad Kazim Rasan, a lecturer in the Department of Fisheries and Marine Resources at the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra, participated as a member of the doctoral dissertation committee for postgraduate student Firas Mahdi Abdul-Ridha from the Department of Animal Production at the College of Agriculture at Al-Qasim Green University. His dissertation was titled "Genetic Relationships of Some Cyprinidae Species in the Shatt al-Hillah River, Iraq."

The study aimed to analyze the genetic diversity and genetic relationships of four species of Cyprinidae fish: the catfish Luciobarbus xanthopterus, the carp Arabibarbus grypus, the red-headed carp Carasobarbus luteus, and the common carp Cyprinus carpio. This study utilized polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA sequencing techniques, as well as morphological and numerical characteristics.

The dissertation emphasized the importance of using molecular methods in protecting fish and conserving riverine species in Iraq.
