This year, as it has done since 2005, the University of Basra began setting up its blessed service convoys at the Shalamcheh border crossing and Saad Square in Basra to serve pilgrims of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) heading on foot to Karbala for the Arbaeen pilgrimage.
The university's efforts include providing meals and cold water, providing healthcare through a mobile hospital and equipped medical detachments, and providing free transportation services between the Shalamcheh border crossing and Saad Square, 24 hours a day, without interruption.
In a statement, the Director of the Media and Government Communication Department at the University of Basra, Professor Haider Abdul Amir Khalaf, said, "The University of Basra annually renews its commitment to serving honorable pilgrims, in loyalty to the approach of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) and in an effort to instill the values of sacrifice and giving. The university has harnessed all its logistical and human resources to ensure the provision of the best services, believing that serving pilgrims is an unparalleled honor." This initiative is one example of the societal renaissance that the University of Basra seeks to foster, embracing its pioneering role in serving the community, particularly during major religious occasions.
