Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, the Ministry held the first scientific conference for the editorial boards of Iraqi scientific journals. The conference aimed to promote local academic journals and elevate them to the level of excellence and international accreditation.

The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra participated with an official delegation that included the Assistant Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sadiq Mohsen Jabbar. This participation represented an opportunity to strengthen the college's presence in national scientific forums and support efforts to develop academic publishing mechanisms.

The conference witnessed extensive discussions on ways to improve the quality of scientific journals and raise the standards of refereeing and publishing, in line with the requirements of global publishing standards.

It is worth noting that the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra, which publishes the "Basra Journal of Agricultural Sciences," has achieved remarkable distinction by having its journal reach the third quarter (Q3) of Scopus within a short period of time. This was achieved thanks to the continuous support of the University of Basra Presidency, the follow-up of the college deanship, and the efforts of the journal's editorial board.

These activities are part of the Ministry of Higher Education's strategy to enhance the status of Iraqi scientific research and activate the role of academic journals in disseminating knowledge and achieving scientific excellence.
