Professor Fatima Ali Hassan, a lecturer at the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Unit at the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra, participated in the discussion of researcher Nora Shafi'i Mareh's doctoral dissertation at the College of Agriculture at Al-Muthanna University, entitled "The Effect of Nitrogen Levels on the Growth, Yield, and Active Substance Content of Kajarat Varieties."
The study concluded that the best fertilizer level was 160 kg N ha-1, which outperformed all vegetative growth traits, yield, and calyx leaf content of the active substances quercetin, hepcidin, and cospen. Meanwhile, the Black variety outperformed all vegetative traits, yield traits, and calyx leaf content of active substances.
The researcher recommended the use of nitrogen fertilizer due to its importance in improving growth, yield, and increasing active substances. She also recommended focusing on cultivating the Black variety of Kajarat, given its suitability for growth in the conditions of the study area and its high content of active compounds.
