The University of Basra organizes a discussion session on the evaluation of some biological characteristics and stocks of two fish species.

The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a discussion session on evaluating some biological characteristics and stocks of two fish species in Iraqi marine waters to achieve sustainable production.

The session, presented by researcher Sara Maan Alwan, aimed to identify the biological characteristics and stock indicators of two fish species. These characteristics and indicators are considered an input for preparing the information required for future plans to achieve sustainable production for these species.

The study included identifying some biological characteristics of two marine fish species, represented by the length-to-weight relationship, relative condition index, sex ratio, first sexual maturity, and gonadal function. Stock indicators were also determined using FiSAT II, Ver. 1.2.2 software, represented by the growth model, total and natural mortality rates, fishing and exploitation rates, first fishing length, supply pattern, relative production to supply, and identifying the lengths at which the highest fishing mortality occurs.
