As part of its leading community role and commitment to protecting students, the University of Basra, represented by the College of Agriculture, launched a comprehensive media awareness campaign to combat the scourge of drugs and psychotropic substances. The campaign saw active participation from faculty, students, and staff.
The campaign aimed to raise awareness by highlighting the devastating health, psychological, and social harms of drug use on individuals and families. It also sought to strengthen community resilience by emphasizing the importance of social cohesion and the role of youth in confronting this serious problem. Furthermore, the campaign aimed to promote a culture of prevention and reinforce preventative measures, warning against the consequences of falling into addiction.
A number of awareness posters and flyers with focused guidance and warning messages were distributed and displayed throughout the college's entrances, corridors, and facilities.
A series of direct guidance and counseling sessions were also organized for students and staff to increase their awareness of the risks and methods of protection.
The Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, stated that this campaign comes within the framework of the university's sustainable strategy aimed at supporting national efforts to enhance community awareness and maintain a safe and clean university environment, free from negative phenomena. We firmly believe that raising awareness and empowering youth is the first line of defense and the guarantee for their future and the security of their community.
This activity affirms the university's commitment to its social responsibility and its active and influential role in building a conscious and resilient generation, capable of contributing effectively and positively to the nation's sustainable development.
