The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar entitled “Isolation and identification of fungi causing wilt of Zambian ornamental plants and their biological resistance using biological control agents and plant extracts.”
The seminar, in which researcher Zahraa Abdel Imam Majeed lectured, aimed to diagnose the fungi causing plant wilt phenotypically and molecularly, and to determine the best biological means to limit their spread.
The study included an evaluation of the efficiency of the fungus Trichoderma spp, the bacteria Pseudomonas fluorescens, and the aqueous and alcoholic extracts of Morenca in inhibiting the growth of Fusarium spp and reducing the severity of the disease, emphasizing that they are safe alternatives without the use of chemical pesticides.
