The University of Basra organizes a seminar on assessing the levels of certain pollutants in the water, sediments, and two types of fish in Khor Al-Zubair.

The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar on "Estimating the Levels of Some Pollutants in the Water, Sediments, and Two Fish Species of Khor Al-Zubair in Southern Iraq."

The seminar, presented by researcher Ali Wafiq Ali, aimed to assess the environmental situation in Khor Al-Zubair by measuring the levels of several pollutants in the water, sediments, and tissues of two fish species: the green eel and the black eel.

The study revealed high levels of petroleum hydrocarbon pollution, in addition to a clear accumulation of heavy metals in the water, sediments, and muscle tissue of the studied fish.

The study recommended the necessity of monitoring industrial and domestic pollution sources and limiting the discharge of polluted water into water bodies.
