Under the patronage of the esteemed Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra inaugurated its Futsal (Five-a-Side) Championship on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

This championship is organized for students of the scientific departments, as well as teams of faculty and staff from the morning program for the 2025-2026 academic year.

The championship opened with a match between the teams of the Horticulture and Landscape Engineering Department and the Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Department. The match, held on the dormitories' field, ended with the Horticulture and Landscape Engineering Department team winning 6-5 in a penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw.

A number of faculty members and students attended the opening match, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and providing moral support to the competitors.

This championship is part of the college's extracurricular activities aimed at promoting sportsmanship and positive interaction among its faculty, staff, and students.
