The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar on the effect of different levels of licorice root extract as a substitute for sucrose in the in vitro micropropagation of two potato varieties.
The seminar, presented by researcher Nour Al-Din Imad Abdul-Hay, aimed to determine the appropriate level of licorice root extract to improve the nutrient medium, increase its efficiency, and make it a suitable replacement for sucrose in the micropropagation of cultivated potato plants.
The seminar demonstrated that cultivating vegetative shoots or plant parts of potato plants on sucrose-free nutrient media containing different levels of licorice root extract yielded positive results in vegetative growth and multiplication.
The seminar recommended conducting further studies using different nutrient media and other combinations of natural extracts to encourage the growth and multiplication of the cultivated plant parts.
