The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a scientific visit to the Marine Science Center's boat marina for first- and second-year students, accompanied by Dr. Naeem Shind Hammadi and Dr. Kadhim Hashim Hassan.
The visit aimed to enhance the practical and applied aspects of ecology and aquatic ecology by connecting theoretical concepts with direct field applications in aquatic ecosystems.
The visit included a field lesson in ecology and aquatic ecology, during which students were introduced to the study area located in the eastern part of the Al-Hammar Marshes. They also practiced scientific methods and techniques for collecting water samples and conducting important field environmental measurements, which are essential indicators for assessing the primary productivity of the aquatic system.
The professors also provided a comprehensive explanation of the components of the aquatic ecosystem in the study area, clarifying the physical and chemical factors affecting it, such as temperature, transparency, pH, salinity, and dissolved oxygen. They explained the role of these factors in regulating biological processes and primary productivity in aquatic ecosystems.
