The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra honors the head of the nursery for her outstanding role in the afforestation and climate change campaign organized by the college.

In its ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability, the Dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, honored Engineer Hanan Sadiq Jaafar in recognition of her exceptional efforts and prominent role in supporting and ensuring the success of the major tree-planting campaign held on the college campus on January 12, 2026. This campaign had a positive impact on enhancing the university environment and fostering a culture of volunteerism and community service.

This initiative stems from the directives of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research aimed at addressing climate challenges and raising environmental awareness in academic institutions.

The campaign focused on increasing green spaces within the university campus, contributing to improved air quality and reduced temperatures, and instilling environmental values ​​in students and the wider community.

The Dean praised the spirit of volunteerism demonstrated by the faculty, staff, and students, emphasizing that the College of Agriculture has always been at the forefront of implementing such programs that benefit the university environment. The honoring of the engineer comes as a message of appreciation to all those who have effectively contributed to translating ministerial directives into tangible realities that help mitigate the effects of climate change.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Deanship affirmed its continued support for impactful initiatives aimed at developing the environmental and agricultural sectors, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts among administrative and teaching staff and students to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
