The University of Basra celebrated its achievement of third place among Iraqi universities in the national rankings at a grand ceremony held at the university's headquarters. The event was sponsored and attended by the University President, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim Al-Asadi, the Vice President for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Haider Khazal Mahbas, and members of the University Council.
The ceremony included a special tribute to the College of Agriculture, represented by its Dean, Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, and the heads of its academic departments. This recognition was in appreciation of the historic achievement of the college's departments securing first place among all agricultural colleges in Iraq, making it a fundamental pillar in the university's rise to national prominence.
In his address, University President Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim Al-Asadi emphasized that "the excellence of the College of Agriculture's departments and their attainment of top rankings is not a coincidence, but rather a well-deserved achievement reflecting sound planning and diligent work. It is conclusive proof of the quality of the college's scientific and research output, which has proven its worth on the national stage."
Al-Asadi explained that this achievement places a greater responsibility on the university to solidify a culture of quality and innovation and to update curricula to meet international standards. He commended the research environment provided by the college to support publication in reputable international databases such as Scopus and Clarivate.
The Dean of the College of Agriculture expressed the college's pride in this recognition, considering it an incentive to give even more. He affirmed that the college is committed to its developmental approach to serve the agricultural sector in Iraq and enhance the University of Basra's standing in upcoming international and local rankings.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the University President presented shields and certificates of appreciation to the Dean of the College and the heads of departments, amidst widespread praise for the leading and academic role played by the College of Agriculture in supporting the advancement of higher education.
