University of Basra organizes a panel discussion on plant resistance to diseases

The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar on "Plant Resistance to Diseases."

The seminar, presented by Dr. Layla Abdul Rahim Bunyan, aimed to define resistance as a natural characteristic of plants, resulting from the interaction between genetic and environmental factors. Resistance was divided into two types: structural and biochemical.

The seminar covered structural resistance, including the timing and efficiency of stomatal opening, cuticle thickness, and the thickness and rigidity of the outer epidermal wall.

The seminar also addressed biochemical resistance, including various cases involving the secretion of toxic compounds, compounds present in the cuticle layer, and toxic substances within plant cells.
