The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar entitled "Response of Wheat Varieties to Growth Under Water Stress Conditions."
The seminar, presented by Master's student Sarah Jabbar Hamid, aimed to highlight the impact of water stress on the growth characteristics and yield components of wheat, and to identify the genetic makeup that is most drought-tolerant and water-efficient, especially in light of the environmental challenges facing Iraq, including water scarcity, climate change, and global warming.
The seminar included the results of several scientific studies and field experiments evaluating the performance of different wheat varieties under varying levels of water depletion and irrigation withholding at specific growth stages. Water scarcity led to a significant decrease in vegetative growth indicators, yield, and its components.
