A faculty member at the University of Basra publishes research in an international journal.

Dr. Khadija Sadiq Jaafar, a faculty member at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, along with other researchers, published a scientific paper titled "Producing Gum From Fish Waste and Using it to Preserve Chilled Beef Meat Balls" in the Egyptian Journal of Aquatic Biology & Fisheries Zoology, a reputable scientific journal indexed in Scopus Q3.

The published research aimed to extract natural gum from the waste of carp and tilapia fish, evaluate its functional properties and antioxidant activity, and study its effect on improving the quality and stability of chilled fish meat balls during storage.
