The University of Basra organizes the closing events of the participatory practical research program for youth to address climate change, in cooperation between the College of Agriculture and UNICEF.

Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim Al-Asadi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Muhammad Al-Shawi, and the Head of the Agricultural Advisory Office, Professor Dr. Mohsen Abdul-Hay Dashar, the Agricultural Advisory Office at the College of Agriculture, in cooperation with UNICEF, held the closing workshop for the Participatory Action-Based Research (PAR) program for youth on climate change in Basra Governorate.

The Director of the Office stated that this program, supported by UNICEF, targeted 25 students from various departments within the College of Agriculture. It included five days of training on the effects of climate change on youth, particularly university students, as well as the implementation of surveys and initiatives such as planting heat-, drought-, and water-scarce-tolerant trees, and recycling waste.

Dr. Dasher also pointed to the concluding workshop, which was attended by representatives from various entities, including the Basra Environment Directorate, the Basra Chamber of Industry, the Basra Education Directorate, and stakeholders from the private sector in the fields of environment and agriculture. The workshop concluded with several recommendations in a final statement that will be submitted to decision-makers and relevant partners in the environmental sector, such as the local government and relevant ministries. These recommendations aim to mitigate the impact of these changes on the university environment and young people.
