The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a field trip to the General Company for Grain Processing and the Al-Mithaq Mill, as part of the requirements for the Grain Processing (Bread and Pastry) course, encompassing both theoretical and practical aspects, with the aim of enhancing students' applied knowledge.
The visit aimed to familiarize students with the key stages of wheat receiving and milling within the mills, and to introduce them to the rheological properties of grains using the company's modern equipment, including the pharnograph and amigrograph, which are used to evaluate grain quality and study its processing characteristics.
During the visit, Ms. Naba, head of the Grain Quality Control Laboratory, provided a detailed explanation of the grain testing mechanism and quality control procedures, while Mr. Zaid Hazem, manager of the Al-Mithaq Mill, gave a comprehensive explanation of the milling stages and flour production steps.
The visit included professors of the course: Dr. Alaa Ghazi Eidan, Dr. Shireen Fadhil Abbas, and Dr. Bushra Bader Jarrad. They emphasized the importance of these scientific visits in bridging the gap between theory and practice, and enabling students to gain a direct understanding of industrial processes.
