In the context of strengthening academic and research cooperation between the University of Basra and the People's Republic of China, a delegation from the Political Section of the Chinese Consulate visited the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra today to discuss avenues for joint scientific collaboration and addressing current environmental challenges.
The diplomatic delegation was received by the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, in the presence of the Vice Deans for Scientific and Administrative Affairs, several heads of academic departments, and a number of faculty members.
The meeting included an extensive discussion during which a comprehensive and detailed presentation was given on the scientific capabilities and infrastructure of the College of Agriculture.
The presentation highlighted the departments, scientific units, the agricultural research station, and the research units and their role in developing the agricultural and livestock sectors, as well as the consulting office and the scientific and practical services they provide to the community.
As a practical step to translate this cooperation into action, the Chinese Consulate extended an official invitation to four professors from the College of Agriculture to visit Ningxia, China, to participate in an intensive two-week training program focused on exchanging expertise and innovative solutions in combating desertification and climate change.
