Under the patronage of the President of the University of Basra, Professor Dr. Muhannad Jawad Kadhim Al-Asadi, and under the supervision of the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Haider Khazal Mahbas, and the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, Head of the Renewable Energy and Sustainability Committee, the University Presidency, represented by the Department of Scientific Affairs, organized a comprehensive workshop to discuss mechanisms for developing renewable energy and environmental sustainability initiatives across the university's various departments.

The workshop, which included the participation of the scientific assistants from the colleges and research centers, addressed the completion of documentation requirements for activities and initiatives related to energy and sustainability. It also focused on establishing clear mechanisms for documenting achievements to support institutional performance indicators and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The workshop included a lecture delivered by the Head of the Committee, Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed, in the presence of the Director of the Department of Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Muhannad Hamed Aboud. The lecture addressed the importance of enhancing academic activity by supporting research, theses, dissertations, and graduation projects related to energy and environmental issues. Furthermore, it discussed plans for developing green teams and applied programs, and continuing awareness and training activities to instill a culture of rational energy use within the university.
