The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra reviewed a doctoral dissertation on "The Effect of Starvation and Refeeding on the Physiological and Nutritional Aspects of Common Carp."
The dissertation, submitted by researcher Ibrahim Hassan Sahib, aimed to evaluate the impact of starvation and refeeding programs on the growth, physiological efficiency, and nutritional performance of common carp, and to demonstrate the potential for utilizing compensatory growth to improve fish production and reduce feed costs.
The study examined the fish's ability to tolerate specific periods of food restriction and recover growth rates after refeeding, which contributes to increased feed utilization efficiency and reduced environmental impacts.
The study recommended expanding research related to sustainable feeding strategies in aquaculture.
