A faculty member from the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra participates in a doctoral dissertation discussion at the University of Baghdad.

Dr. Salah Mahdi Sultan, a faculty member at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, participated as a member of the doctoral dissertation committee for researcher Shatha Hadi Mahmoud at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad. Her dissertation was titled "Survey and Characterization of Clay Minerals and Free Iron Oxides in Some Soils of Sulaymaniyah Governorate and Their Suitability for Agricultural Exploitation."

The dissertation aimed to study the relationship between the properties of the studied soils and their suitability for agricultural exploitation, and to prepare spatial maps illustrating the mineral distribution using modern techniques.

The study recommended expanding its scope to include a comparison between topographically high and low areas within Sulaymaniyah Governorate to understand the effect of elevation and slope on the distribution of clay minerals.
