Al-Nabaa Information Network published an interview with researcher Nour Al-Huda Hassan Laibi, discussing the details of her Master's thesis in Agricultural Sciences, Department of Soil Science and Water Resources, College of Agriculture, University of Basra. The thesis, titled "The Effect of Adding Nano-Silicon and Biochar and Their Interaction on Soil Properties, Growth, and Yield of Wheat in Saline Soil," aimed to evaluate the impact of different levels of nano-silicon and biochar, both individually and in combination, on improving the properties of saline soil and increasing wheat yield. The thesis presented these as sustainable and environmentally friendly alternatives to support the agricultural sector.
The researcher reviewed the most prominent findings of her study, explaining that combining biochar and nano-silicon at the optimal concentration contributed to improving soil properties and enhancing crop growth and productivity. She emphasized that the thesis recommended adopting this technology for reclaiming saline lands, with the aim of expanding future studies to include different crops and environmental conditions, thus contributing to sustainable agricultural development and food security.
The publication of this dialogue reflects the high level of scientific output of graduate students at the University of Basra and underscores the importance of supporting applied research that utilizes modern technologies to address agricultural challenges.
