The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra conducted a master's thesis on "Preparing Edible Films Reinforced with Vegetable Oils and Studying Their Effect on Preserving Meat Fillets (Beef, Chicken, Fish)."
The thesis, presented by researcher Mohammed Ali Jassim, aimed to assess the chemical content of pumpkin seed powder and rosemary oil, extract their oils, and utilize them to reinforce bio-gelatinized films for preserving meat fillets under refrigeration.
The study results showed that pumpkin seed powder has a higher nutritional value, while rosemary oil exhibited superior antioxidant and antibacterial activity. Furthermore, the mechanical and barrier properties of the films were improved, contributing to the preservation of meat quality and extending its shelf life compared to uncoated samples.
