Dr. Khawla Rashid Hassan, a faculty member at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, participated as a member of the committee discussing a master's thesis entitled "The Role of the Circular Economy in Achieving Environmental Sustainability: International Experiences with Reference to Iraq."
The thesis, presented by student Batoul Wameedh Ali, aimed to demonstrate the importance of Iraq adopting circular economy practices, its requirements, and the extent to which environmental laws are being implemented.
The thesis employed both deductive and inductive methodologies, reviewing the experiences of Sweden and Saudi Arabia in waste management and emissions reduction, and exploring their applicability to the Iraqi context.
The thesis recommended providing government support for circular economy projects and moving away from the entrenched bureaucracy in Iraq.
