A doctoral dissertation at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, investigated "The Effect of Adding Vertisol Soil Amendments and Emulsified Lubricating Oil on Improving the Physical, Hydraulic, and Biological Properties of Sandy Soil under Moisture and Rainfall Levels Similar to Southern Iraq."

The dissertation, presented by researcher Duha Salem Jameel, aimed to demonstrate the role of these amendments in enhancing the soil's water retention capacity, improving microbial activity and biological crust formation, supporting the growth and productivity of desert plants, and increasing soil resistance to wind erosion.

The study recommended expanding the use of these treatments to mitigate the degradation of sandy soils, along with conducting long-term field studies to evaluate their effectiveness under varying environmental conditions.
