The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar on desertification entitled "5-1 Measures to Combat Desertification." The seminar, presented by Dr. Mohsen Abdul-Hay Dasher, aimed to highlight the most important procedures and measures necessary to combat desertification and reduce land degradation, promote the sustainable management of natural resources, and preserve soil fertility and vegetation cover, thus contributing to environmental protection and achieving agricultural sustainability.

The seminar addressed the most important causes of desertification and the factors leading to land degradation, as well as ways to reduce its environmental and agricultural impacts. It also reviewed practical measures to combat desertification, including protecting vegetation cover, rationalizing water use, improving soil management, reducing salinity and erosion, and encouraging sustainable agricultural practices.

The seminar emphasized the importance of intensifying scientific and awareness efforts and implementing appropriate solutions to reduce desertification, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions.
