The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a seminar titled "The Effects of Salt Stress on Common Carp and the Role of Moringa Plant Compounds in Mitigating Them," presented by researcher Zainab Jawad Obaid.
The seminar aimed to identify the effects of salt stress on common carp, characterize the active compounds in the Moringa plant using HPLC technology, and demonstrate their role in mitigating the negative effects of salinity due to their antioxidant content, particularly phenols and flavonoids.
The seminar addressed the impact of salinity on oxidative stress indicators (SOD, CAT, and MDA), hematological and biochemical characteristics, and their relationship to growth. It also explored the role of Moringa leaf powder as a feed additive that contributes to enhancing the physiological and immune response of fish and their resistance to salt stress, thus supporting the development of fish farming in the highly saline waters of southern Iraq.
