A lecturer from the University of Basra gave a lecture at a guidance seminar in cooperation with the Guidance Training Center in Basra Governorate.

Professor Aqeel Hadi Abdul Wahid, a lecturer in the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering at the College of Agriculture at the University of Basra, participated as a lecturer in the guidance seminar held at the Training Center in Basra Governorate, titled "Good Agricultural Practices in Orchard Establishment and Cultivation of Tissue Palm Offshoots."

The seminar included a brief explanation of the national program for palm rehabilitation and development, including its action steps. It also included a presentation and a detailed explanation of the current situation of palm trees, including the number of palm trees, the diversity of varieties, and annual production compared to previous years. It also identified the most prominent causes of the decline in palm tree production.

The seminar recommended the need to advance the palm sector in terms of propagation methods (free offshoots, tissue offshoots, and seeds). It highlighted the important role of tissue culture laboratories in Basra Governorate, and emphasized the importance of tissue culture and the main propagation steps, including selection of plant sources and sterilization, as well as cultivation in a nutrient medium and stimulation of multiplication. It also included the transfer of tissue offshoots to sustainable soil, and proposed solutions for providing tissue offshoots.
