The College of Agriculture at Basra University organized a seminar on the effects of certain plant extracts and the fungus Beauveria bassiana in controlling the cotton aphid (Aphis gossypii) on okra plants.
The seminar, presented by researcher Tabarak Shaker Saeed, aimed to demonstrate the effectiveness of some plant extracts and the fungus Beauveria bassiana in reducing cotton aphid infestations and improving okra plant growth.
The seminar included the results of field and laboratory tests, which showed that eucalyptus extract and the fungus were superior in reducing aphid populations and increasing mortality rates compared to other treatments.
The study highlighted the importance of integrating natural and biological control methods into Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs as a sustainable approach to pest control and improving agricultural productivity.
