The Women's Affairs Unit at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, organized a seminar on "The Role of Rural Women in Sustainable Development."
The seminar aimed to highlight the pivotal role of rural women in supporting comprehensive development and enhancing the sustainability of agricultural communities through their active participation in agricultural production, their economic and social empowerment, and their contribution to preserving natural resources.
The seminar, presented by Professor Ghufran Abdul-Hussein Khassaf, Head of the Rural Women and Girls Development Division at the Basra Governorate Directorate of Agriculture, included discussions on women's role in managing small rural projects, their contribution to enhancing food security, the importance of empowering them through training and technical support, and the challenges they face in rural environments, such as limited services, weak infrastructure, and social barriers.
The seminar also emphasized the need to adopt sustainable development programs targeting rural women, including vocational training, support for small projects, health and social awareness campaigns, and enhancing their participation in decision-making within the local community.
Professor Ghufran recommended focusing on programs to empower rural women, providing ongoing training courses, supporting productive projects, raising community awareness of the importance of women's roles, and encouraging initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life in rural areas.
This seminar is part of a series of activities organized by the Women's Affairs Unit at the College of Agriculture, aimed at raising awareness, developing skills, and empowering women in various fields.
