Dr. Alaa Mohammed Sadkhan, a faculty member at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, participated in the discussion of a master's thesis entitled "Physicochemical and Functional Properties of Proteins and Their Enzymatic Hydrolysates Extracted from Local Shrimp Waste," submitted by student Murtadha Adel Hannoun from the Food Science Department at the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, University of Baghdad. The thesis aimed to determine the optimal conditions for preparing protein isolates from local shrimp waste by studying the effect of temperature and pH on the extraction and precipitation processes, as well as determining the appropriate time and mixing ratio to achieve the best extraction efficiency. The study explored the possibility of utilizing shrimp waste to extract proteins and functional compounds with nutritional and industrial value, thus contributing to reducing waste and promoting the utilization of marine waste. The discussion committee included a faculty member from the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, reflecting scientific cooperation among Iraqi universities and the exchange of academic expertise in food science and biotechnology. The study recommended the establishment of specialized centers to collect shrimp waste from local markets and restaurants and to process it to utilize its active components, such as proteins, chitin, and salts. And dyes.
