The University of Basra organizes a scientific visit to the Horticulture and Forestry Division of the Basra Agriculture Directorate

The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a field trip for second-year students in the Horticulture and Landscape Engineering Department to the Horticulture and Forestry Division in Al-Haritha District, affiliated with the Basra Agriculture Directorate. This visit was part of the requirements for the Organic Agriculture and Plant Nutrition courses.

The visit aimed to enhance students' practical skills and enable them to connect the theoretical concepts they learned in the classroom with practical realities and modern agricultural techniques in the field.

The visit included two components: a theoretical component covering the scientific principles of crop management, and a practical component focused on field trips. These trips included introducing students to various types of ornamental plants and fruit trees, with detailed explanations of their cultivation, propagation, and irrigation systems. Students also received training in diagnosing mineral deficiencies in plants and learning about scientific treatment methods to ensure healthy plant growth. A specialized visit to a compost (organic fertilizer) production plant was also conducted. The students learned about techniques for converting palm waste (palm trunks) into high-quality organic fertilizer, reinforcing the concepts of recycling and sustainable agriculture, which are fundamental pillars of organic farming. The visit was supervised by Dr. Rasha Kadhim Hamza, Dr. Nadia Nasser Hamed, Dr. Jamal Abdul-Ridha Abdul-Sayed, and Instructor Inas Riyadh Majeed.

This visit is a key step by the College of Agriculture to prepare a generation of agricultural engineers capable of keeping pace with technological advancements and utilizing them to serve and develop the agricultural sector in Basra Governorate.
