The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a scientific visit for fourth-year students in the Food Science Department, as part of the requirements for the Quality Control course, to the marine chemistry laboratories of the Marine Science Center at the University of Basra.
The visit, supervised by the course instructors Dr. Alaa Mohammed Sadkhan, Dr. Alia Jamil, and Inas Abdul Rahman Ali, aimed to enhance the students' practical skills and introduce them to the latest methods used in chemical testing and sample analysis, particularly regarding water hardness and other factors related to food safety and quality.
The visit included a tour of the center's laboratories, where students learned about the modern equipment used in chemical analysis, the mechanisms for applying quality control standards, and methods for detecting contaminants in food and aquatic environments.
The supervising professor emphasized that this visit is part of the department's efforts to bridge the gap between theory and practice, providing students with scientific experience that contributes to developing their skills and preparing them for the job market.
The students expressed their great benefit from the visit, as it provided an opportunity to gain firsthand experience of the laboratory work environment and quality control applications in the food and environmental fields.
