The department opened after it was closed in the eighties, as it was a branch of plant production, and after a series of procedures, the approval of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research was obtained to open the department in the academic year 1993-1994. Graduate studies were established in the field crops department in the academic year 1994-1995 for a master's degree .
Future Vision :
In the future, the department aspires to expand postgraduate studies and include a doctorate as well. The department also aspires to have all research directions in the service of the agricultural sector, thus identifying the problems that the agricultural sector suffers from so that the problems can be categorized later in order to facilitate the process of solving them.
The department is in the process of installing axes according to the existing specializations and includes under these axes the research projects to be conducted in order to facilitate for the graduate student the freedom to choose the axis he wishes to study and the right to choose the research project of that axis.
