The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra holds a scientific symposium on the use of plant extracts as alternatives to chemical sterilizers

The Department of Horticulture and Garden Engineering at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, held a scientific symposium on the use of plant extracts as alternatives to chemical sterilizers, as it was held using the Cisco platform. The symposium was attended by about 88 teachers and visitors from various Iraqi universities, as well as from some Arab universities. The first lecture was given by Prof. Dr. Iman Faisal Al-Shukry from the Faculty of Agriculture, Karbala University, on natural alternatives to sterilizers. The second lecture was given by Assistant Professor Dr. Sabah Abdul Falih from the Faculty of Agriculture, Karbala University, on the effects of extracts of three active secondary compounds (glycosides, alkaloids and tannins) in eliminating pathogens. The third lecture was given by the teacher, Dr. Woroud Hantoush Nehme from the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Basra, tagged the possibility of using plant extracts as natural sterilizers. The following recommendations: 1- Forming a research team for the purpose of producing disinfectants from plant extracts in the Department of Horticulture and Garden Engineering 2- Activating the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Unit and providing it with the competent cadres 3- Drawing up research paths in the scientific plan of the department dealing with plant extracts and their role as disinfectants or repellants for viruses 4- Procedure A survey of local plant hosts that can be used as a source for plant extract production.
