Given what the world and Iraq in particular suffer from the scarcity of irrigation water due to the lack of precipitation and the low level of river water and the consequent necessity of economy and rationing of irrigation water by increasing the efficiency of water consumption of field crops, in addition to trying to diversify the water sources needed for agriculture. The University of Basra/College of Agriculture/Department of Field Crops with the Directorate of Basra Agriculture/Department of Plant Production discussed joint cooperation regarding a study on the success of cultivating ten varieties of wheat in the Al-Lhais area, south of Basra Governorate, within the conditions of desert areas. The aim of the study is to determine the appropriate variety for growth and production within the conditions of dry areas. A special field management program has been implemented in line with those difficult environmental conditions specific to desert areas, including reliance on well water to irrigate these species with the use of sprinkler irrigation methods and fertilization with irrigation water and others. Very good results were obtained, as some cultivars were distinguished by their abundant production.
