A Ph. D thesis in the Department of Animal Production at the College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah examined the effect of adding saponins on productive performance and carcass characteristics of Awassi male lambs by researcher Rashid Hamid Abdullah.
The study aimed to investigate the effect of four levels of saponins (0, 60, 120 and 180 mg / kg feed) on each of the production characteristics , carcass characteristics and cuts weights of Awassi lambs.

The results showed a significant improvement in all production characteristics of body weight, weight increases, efficiency of food conversion, weights of carcasses and major cuts after adding saponins to the diets.
