Basra University Relies on Groundwater To Irrigate Its Crops In The Al-Lahis region.

Department of Field Crops at the College of Agriculture, University of Basra, with the participation of the Department of Plant Production in the Basra Agriculture Directorate, began planting 10 varieties of wheat In the desert area of Al-Luhais(West of Basra governorate). Depending on the groundwater, after several experiments in different areas, a research team consisting of (Dr. Kareem Mohsin and Dr. Mohanned Abd al-Hussain) From the Department of Field Crops, Agriculture college start to cultivating different varieties of wheat crops that can survive in desert conditions by relying on groundwater. The experiment aims to raising the level of agricultural production in deserted areas and shifting from reliance on surface water to groundwater.
