A. Ph.D.thesis at the College of Agriculture University of Basrah discusses the The Effect of Contamination with Heavy Elements Produced from the Oil fields on Some Physical, Chemical, Anatomical  and Molecular Traits of Leaves and Fruits of Date Palm ( Phoenix dactylifera L. ) cv. Hillawi. The thesis presented by the student Hassanain Mohamad Ghabash Al-Mousawi included the effect of heavy elements on some physical, chemical, anatomical and molecular characteristics of the leaves and fruits of date palm trees, the cv. Hillawi growing in location with different dimensions from the source of pollution. The thesis aims to quantitatively and qualitatively diagnose some heavy elements resulting from the source of pollution and to estimate the bioaccumulation of some heavy elements in leaves and fruits resulting from the source of pollution in the study sites and to study the effect of the studied heavy elements on some vegetative, fruiting, anatomical and molecular characteristics, and the yield of date palms of the Halawi variety. The study concluded that there is high pollution with heavy elements in the soil of the study sites close to the source of pollution, and the concentrations of heavy elements are reduced by moving away from the source of pollution.
The study recommended: The necessity of activating environmental protection laws from the influence of oil, industrial waste and car exhaust, and conducting phytoremediation treatments for agricultural lands contaminated with heavy elements.
