The University of Basrah organizes a panel discussion on the genetic improvement of the mangrove plant

The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a panel discussion on the genetic improvement of the mangrove plant. The seminar, in which Prof. Dr. Halima Jabbar Abdul-Ridha lectured, aims to genetically improve the mangrove plant by using the plant tissue culture technique in order to cultivate and multiply it in the coasts of Basra. The seminar dealt with a presentation on the importance of the plant to the environment and man, because it constitutes an integrated environment and has great importance in terms of entertainment and stabilization of coasts from erosion due to tidal movements and the impact of storms, and on the other hand its importance in being a suitable environment for gatherings of fish, birds and marine animals and providing the environment with a large amount of oxygen and air purification . The episode touched on the possibility of cultivating this plant under the environmental conditions of the city of Basra and the preservation of its coasts and the purification of the environment from industrial pollutants resulting from oil residues.
