A doctoral thesis at the University of Basrah discussing the determination of the genetic potential of buffaloes using polymorphisms for some Y chromosome genes.

A doctoral thesis in the Department of Animal Production, College of Agriculture, Basra University, discussed the determination of the genetic potential of buffaloes using polymorphisms for some Y chromosome genes. The thesis of the researcher Faqid Abdul-Amir Fahd and the supervision of Professor Dr. Asaad Yahya Ayed included a study of the phylogenetic tree of buffaloes in three Iraqi governorates, including Dhi Qar, Maysan and Wasit, using PCR technology after collecting blood samples from 100 male buffaloes and comparing them with buffaloes around the world. The thesis aims to look at differences in the Y chromosome using four genes: TSP34, TSP23, SRYHMG, The study recommended the adoption of research projects covering a larger geographical area and larger numbers of animals, in addition to adopting the technique of artificial insemination to improve the qualitative and quantitative characteristics of buffaloes.
