
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra participated in the first international scientific conference of the Alamein Center for Environmental Research, Climate Change, and Water, held in Baghdad on October 17-18, 2025, under the patronage of Prime Minister Eng. Mohammed Shia' Al-Sudani, and attended by a wide range of official and international figures.
The college's participation included a select group of its professors specializing in the fields of environment and natural resources, represented by the Dean of the College of Agriculture, Professor Dr. Sarmed Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, and a number of college professors. The conference's scientific sessions discussed environmental and climate challenges in Iraq and the region, and ways to enhance regional and international cooperation to address them.
The college delegation emphasized the importance of the role of Iraqi universities in supporting national initiatives such as the "Iraqi Environmental Encyclopedia" project, and contributing to building a scientific knowledge base that contributes to achieving sustainable development and formulating future environmental policies.
This participation comes within the framework of the College of Agriculture's commitment to its scientific and research role in addressing the effects of climate change and water scarcity, and strengthening partnerships between academic, governmental, and international institutions to address environmental issues in Iraq.
