The College of Agriculture at the University of Basra organized a scientific visit to the Palm Tree Research Center to enhance practical aspects and link theoretical studies with practical reality. This visit was for third-year undergraduate students, as part of the requirements for the Date Processing course. The visit was supervised by course instructors Dr. Alia Jamil Ali, Dr. Alia Ziara Hashim, Dr. Zainab Abdul Ali, and lecturer Sara Hashim Musa.
During the visit, the students were introduced to the tissue culture process of date palms and learned about the scientific mechanism and basic steps involved in tissue propagation.
The visit also included a field tour of the cultivation, incubation, and development rooms, where they learned about the nutritional media used in the various stages of cultivation, as well as the environmental conditions suitable for developing growth until advanced stages before transferring the plants to protected shelters to prepare them for outdoor conditions.
The students were also introduced to the most important devices, tools, and materials used in tissue culture techniques, providing a valuable opportunity to gain practical experience that enhances their skills and scientific knowledge in the field of date production and modern plant propagation techniques.
This visit comes as part of the college's ongoing commitment to supporting applied and field activities and providing interactive educational opportunities that contribute to preparing qualified students capable of keeping pace with scientific developments in their fields of expertise.
